Is it true that lions usually mate over a two to three day period?

A mating pair usually leaves the pride for between one and three days. They often go without food during this period, but may join the pride temporarily when a kill is made.

At the beginning of the mating period, intervals between copulations could be about every 20 minutes but may become longer towards the end of the period.

The lion has an amazing virility. A case has been reported of a mating pair that copulated 157 times in 55 hours, or once every 21 minutes. This male did not eat for three days and it is not known whether lack of appetite or lack of time, or both, was the reason.
